Classic: Lake Chabot Loop

Lake Chabot may be my favorite place to ride gravel in the East Bay. It just provides so many options. It’s like a spider’s web of choppy single track, steady to seriously steep fireroads, and the occasional smoothly paved roller coaster all intersecting in interesting ways. As most of the foot traffic stays near the lake you’ll also have long stretches of dirt where you’ll see very few people. And those lake views? Don’t even get me started.

This is our Classic Lake Chabot loop. We start in Joaquin Miller Park and enjoy the flowing Skyline Road until we dip into Lake Chabot. The latter half of this ride does have some challenging climbing, but don’t worry — we’ve also included a stop in Castro Valley at Devout Coffee to get you fully charged before you tackle the tough stuff.

As you get to know the route, experiment with it. See some single track along the road? Take it! Notice a side trail that looks interesting? See where it goes! There’s so much to explore, and you can usually find your way back to this Classic route without too much trouble. If you find something you love, reach out to us and let us know!
