Weeknight dirt discovery

When I’m out on the bike I often have one eye on where I’m going and one eye on the trails and roads I pass. Through years of exploration, I’ve created routes that stitch these little dirt detours together, partly to get off the car-heavy roads and partly because it transforms even the most familiar routes into something that feels new.

This route is a quick weeknight hit out, and takes in a few lil’ bits of dirt before topping out at the local mountain bike Mecca of Joaquin Miller Park. You’ll take in the most scenic trail in the park as you cut across the hillside and then come back down to earth for a few more short stretches of gravel goodness.

The route map will show you where to go, but as some of these dirt stretches are along a roadside it might be helpful to list them out as well. Keep an eye out for the dirt along:

  • Park Blvd

  • Monterey Blvd

  • Sunset Trail (obvs)

  • Shephard’s Park

  • The left hand side of the Montclair Railroad Trail

  • Ostrander Park

Enjoy this weeknight dirt discovery, and feel free to reach out with any questions.
