Napa Sunday

We have a few go-to spots when we need to just get away from the craziness of urban living. While we haven’t explored it extensively, the Napa Valley is one of those places.

Yes, yes, there is wine. But more to our tastes, there are VINEYARDS. Beautiful, terraced, branching vineyards. They’re tucked into secret meadows, spread out over the wide valley, and cut into hillsides. It’s truly a patchwork quilt of cultivars.

In contrast to the well-manicured grounds of the tasting rooms that have bloomed throughout the region, the Napa area also gives a first hand demonstration of the power of nature. This area has been swept by several years of intense wildfire, and it’s left a haunting, striking landscape in its wake.

The cute little tourist hub of Yountville comes late in this ride and provides a perfect coffee stop. If you don’t mind lines, Bouchon Bakery is your spot for pastries. We like Southside for its laid back atmosphere and stone buildings. Oprah says the English muffins at Mini Model are her favorite in the country. Once thing in certain: you can’t go wrong with any of these choices.
