Marin headlands champagne gravel

The Marin Headlands are a special place to ride gravel. While it’s surrounded by urban density, the headlands themselves offer 1.5 million acres of minimally-touched landscape. You’ll hear the screech of red tailed hawks and the wind in the chaparral before you hear honking horns and the roar of traffic.

Offering well-maintained and smoothly-graded gravel roads, the Headlands are also a place where riders new to gravel can focus on enjoying the scenery rather than needing to put their technical skills constantly to the test.

In the latter half of this ride you’ll be treated to truly world-class vistas of the Golden Gate Bridge. As you descend from the height of the towers down to sea level and the footings of the bridge you’ll have a number of opportunities to stop and enjoy the view.

And don’t worry: you’ll be able to make quick work of the mostly flat miles back to the start, so don’t sweat it if you get carried away taking pictures.
